A NEW RACING CLASS

SL250  Circuit Racing Catamaran fitted with a standard Evinrude 250 E-Tec

At the 2009 RYA Coniston Power Boat Week in November Keith sets a timed average record speed of 128.71 mph. Not bad for a standard production Evinrude E-Tec 250 engine!

Keith Whittle the Managing Director of Powertech Marine has many years of circuit racing experience and has been working with Evinrude to produce a new racing class as the latest development in the sport.

Keith Whittle said "this just goes to prove that the Evinrude 250 E-Tec motor is the perfect motor to develop the most exciting circuit racing class for years, being a green 2 stroke and having tremendous torque we can achieve the performance figures we require without having to compromise reliability".

John Puddifoot Powerboat Racing Manager of the RYA who has driven the boat said "that this project has tremendous potential". John further commented that "circuit racing in the UK desperately needs a new flagship class and the new SL250 using a standard production catamaran and the Evinrude E-Tec engine will now deliver this for the first time in many years. The RYA will do everything possible to promote this class and it is hoped that competitors from motor racing will soon be experiencing, on water, the awesome power and performance of the new SL250".

New GT30

Introduced in 2009 was the new "GT30" class age 14 upwards. The "GT30" is a comparatively new racing class giving economic entry into powerboat racing governed by the U.I.M and the RYA. The class demands that all the boats are the same weight and all the engines are "green" and comply with the international rules while having a maximum of 30 horse-power.

The boats used for this class are the same as those used in the Junior JT250 and GT15 class, so once a young person has passed the age of 14 or 16 you can swap the engine for the 30 horse-power and continue racing at a relatively low additional outlay. The hull seen here today, newly developed by FSG composites of Burntwood, Staffordshire with propellers supplied by BRM racing is an ideal platform for Evinrude's new "Green" 30 hp engine suppled by Powertech Marine of Hayling Island. The combination has proven to be extremely strong and reliable and will make a lively and afordable step-up from junior racing or a fun class to race until retirement.
